David Dimbleby and his son Fred officially opened Martlets Cattery in May 2001. It has been our aim as a cattery to take care of our guests as if they were our own, and to give them anything they need to feel comfortable and safe whether it be their own bed from home, special food, an extra feed at lunchtime, a long cuddle or just peace and quiet. All our chalets are full height PVCu with a double glazed window by the shelf in the sleeping quarters. The individual covered area outside of the sleeping quarters is PVCu from the floor to 3ft and then glass to the ceiling. The front of the outside area is mesh to provide fresh air at all times. There is a safety corridor running the full length of the cattery with a five lever locked door at each end. The chalets have a heat reflective roof covering the whole cattery to prevent heat building up in the summer and warm in winter, each having a thermostatically controlled heater panel, We have fifteen double chalets. Cats which normally live together can share, some chalets have intercommunicating doors so that larger family groups can be together. We only use Vet Bed in our baskets and stainless steel bowls to maintain the maximum levels in hygiene and comfort. The cats in our care have access to their own individual hygienic scratching posts Martlets Cattery is set within a beautiful rural two acre site. The guest accommodation overlooks the orchard and a field beyond. Martlets Cattery has fifteen double pens and can accommodate thirty cats when full. Cats which normally live together can share. Some pens have intercommunicating doors so that larger groups can be together The Cattery is run (very much like our own home) for the comfort of the cats. Their individual needs are always catered for. It is therefore essential that I know our 'guests' preferences before they visit such as food likes and dislikes, their type of life style and their little ways, i.e., does not like to be picked up, or will eat until sick. All our pens are at one level for the ease of old and/or handicapped cats. Our specially designed low level, draught proof cosy cat beds ensure that they do not need to climb to reach their bed. My clients know their own cats best. I believe that a cat's stay will be more pleasant if it is tailored to their own requirements and is as much like their own home as possible.
